Tough Love
Let’s workshop this narrative poem about the difficulty that some artists face when it comes time to moving on to another project--or even just to the other areas of their lives (like simply eating).
scent of the day: One Man Show (Oud Edition), by Jacques Bogart (headshop-meets-barbershop late-70s style powerhouse eau de toilette that, after a skanky and almost hairspray-like bergamot opening, takes me in the long-lasting dry down right to the Nag Champa or Super Hit bar soap of Satya Sai Baba)
Tough Love
The artist’s creations suckled him
(mewling like starved kittens)
for evermore revision,
and fighting to move on
was like fighting to get pine sap
off the palms—an infuriation
whose escalation
at least made it less heartrending
to desert them on cold public steps.
