Sharp for Concrete Survival 
—for Audre Lorde

Conscious that his identity 
as a white male trembles now 
along the margins, the edges

of the larger social structure
(especially of the university), 
his resultant hypervigilance

against threats of the end—
end of reputation, livelihood—
grants him a special acuity.
