Midnight Quarters
Let’s workshop this poem about the many hips history finds it unsafe to name—hips that, although dressed up in the archives as Wakanda resistance, kicked up wet-ass plumes of climactic fecality.
scent of the day: Oud Luwak 2, by Areej
Second time wearing—here are my notes.
Luwak coffee, made from coffee beans that have passed through the digestive tract of a civet, is largely a gimmick to inflate price—indeed, and for all its faint musky and chocolate-liek undertones, it tastes weak and lacks body / That fact makes Oud Luwak a perfect name for this fragrance because, after the opening hour where the scent has a unique aroma as well as beefy richness, it too soon goes down into a generic tannic crocodile wood scent that we get done better by Bortnikoff’s Sans Fleurs mixed with the ashy-matchstick drydown of Oud Taiwan mixed with Scent of Banat’s castoreum leather / One should get Sans Fleurs instead—there it is done better (albeit more minimalist) / or, for something with less minimalism than either and a bit different and boozier and mossier and with a castoreum leather, go for the Scent of Banat / I have all three scents—so I am strong considering selling the Areej (right now I can get at least $500) /
While this is a letdown, do not get it confused: it is too high quality in ingredients to be a letdown like Promise or King Blue or Enclave or so on—although, with exception to Promise, I should not deny that those fragrances display, for all their feel of being bankrolled by blasphemous captive molecules that are a slander to perfumery, much much much greater mastery than this.
bit different coffee-civet oud fragrance—dirty and animalic / fecal at least for the inexperienced—Bijoux butt plus Ox breath / has the sweetness too of Assam oud / not as fermented though, not blue cheese / stays poopy but the halitosis goes down after ten minutes / civet plus the coffee really gives the luwak impression, well at least the fantasy of luwak coffee which I hear is weak / after 10 mintues gives a musky-smoky leather / coffee impression can fade to the nose but the bitterness it offers stays—it stays in the form of bitterness / more of a civet oud in dry down than a coffee oud / petrichor earth vibe through the style of oud and the bitter coffee—jungly version of figment animalis / can give you the impression fo the civet cat eating the coffee berries and pooping them out / the civet stays center, but goes from halitosis to leather. / usually castoerum gives you that animalic leather, but this shows the leathery aspect of civet (although I will say castoreum is unstated)/ has roasted and smoky vibe—but not as smoky as some ouds get /tabac dore woodiness of oud taiwn / white green blue fuzz of mold on coffee grains especially in dry opening / then sweetens slightly in dry diwn when it takes on tabac dore smell / civet plus Russian Adam’s own fermented coffee he fermented himself /
tobacco coffee fragrance oud luwak / medicinal camphor, tannic booze like Sans Fleurs—probably that crocodile wood / the blend then dries into an incense somehow and then burned. The areej difference is the realistic smoke (not smoky but smoke) / high quality but definitely not worth the money given what bort sans fluers gives or even Wesker / 75 sans fluers 15 fiona 5 tabac dore 5 vick-lin (Fiona abd bicky lin thiugh minus their umami funk of sea shell guts and snail door—sctually shell saltiness cones out on dry down here in luwak)
drops off a cliff abd goes into sonething similar to oud taiwan, albeit more leathery in the old-school way that Varuek does better / a smidge of Tauer L’Oudh comes out hour in / a bit blinding especially in begining, not as powerful in terms of longevity as Fiona /3 hour mild plasticky latex comes out. like latex chewing gum / that latex turns a bit rubbery leather/
much more of a coffee fragrance than its competition Lao Oud / Lao Oud brings a more animalistic and barny oud for which the coffee is in service whereas here the oud, which is in service of the coffee int eh beginging and then leatherr in dry down, is tannic bitter like temple beams and tea-and-red-wine-stained parchment / the coffee of beginning is more realistic than Follow. / That said it is less recognizable as coffee than Follow is—Follow walks a wonderful line between realism and just enough caricature to avoid letting it go unnoticed as what it is: like any good caricature (think Tina Fey of Palin, it allows you to see the thing as if for the first time) /
This and Oud Taiwan have only made me run faster into the arms I have long resisted: the arms of Prin Lomros—fearless and high quality, a person who delivers the top ingredients and the exotic-asian ferality that (because of his masterful use of synthetics) does not collapse in on itself.
Midnight Quarters We lie too hard to face those shame-sweet occasions when slave girl hips—treacherous in response to master thrusts—quickened, under the fooling-nobody theater of “No!” into a pissy gallop, indolic fury historians tidy as “defiance”: “Uh. Lawd-a-massi. Uuhn!”
