Black Girl Dreams in 2021
Let's workshop this poem about a lady speaking out loud in a dream where she is president (or a public official of some sort) and suddenly finds out the mic is on
Black Girl Dreams in 2021
Her coughing fit startled me up
once again. I groaned the pillow
around my head. But this time,
as if to fit the racket to the dream,
a tense whisper followed, rapid
and as if to someone at her side.
“You for real?” Leaving no time,
though, even for a nod or glance
from that dreamscape confidant,
her decibel and cadence perked
to public address. “Americans.
May I have your attention?”
