Beyond Mating
Let's workshop this poem about how, despite being inherently part of nature, we feel--as creatures susceptible to the power of symbolic acts--the need to perform rituals to feel closer to to nature
Beyond Mating
We are already connected
to nature, modes of nature—
but as heady critters,
moved by ceremony
and vulnerable to placebo,
no wonder we would feel
the need to paint our skin
with white and red clay
to feel that connection.
